A man who was suspected of being involved in a hit and run led Shelby Police on a car chase Nov. 2, that resulted in him crashing into a police car and fleeing on foot before he was captured and arrested, according to Shelby Police.

Chief Brad Fraser said officers were investigating a hit and run with minor injuries that happened around 6:30 p.m. near Hamrick Street and Royster Avenue. Fraser said a witness who saw the hit and run followed the car until police arrived and attempted to make a stop. He said the man, Calvin Tyrwron Bell, 46, refused to stop and officers started a pursuit.

Near Shelby High School, Bell, crashed into an officer's car and then fled on foot, Fraser said.

He said the officer was taken to the hospital out of precaution, but he appears to be OK.
