Gopichand Parmanand Hinduja, the Chairman of the Hinduja Group, passed away at the age of 85 in a London hospital. His death was reported on Tuesday, following a period of illness in recent weeks. Known as GP Hinduja, he had been a prominent figure in the business world and was recognized as the richest individual in the United Kingdom for seven consecutive years, according to the UK Sunday Times Rich List.

Gopichand took over as chairman of the Hinduja Group in May 2023, following the death of his elder brother, Srichand Hinduja. In 1979, he moved to London to expand the export company.

He graduated from Jai Hind College in Mumbai and held honorary doctorates from the University of Westminster and Richmond College in London. The Hinduja family has significant interests in various sectors, including banking, lubricants, and real estate, and has made notable acquisitions, such as Gulf Oil in the 1980s.

Rami Ranger, a member of the British House of Lords, expressed condolences, stating, "His passing marks the end of an era, as he was truly a well-wisher of the community and a guiding force." He described Gopichand as gracious, humble, and committed to supporting good causes, leaving a significant void in the community.

The Hinduja Group continues to be a major player in various industries, reflecting Gopichand's legacy in the business world.
