Air travellers could soon get more flexibility with their bookings. India’s aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has proposed sweeping changes to air ticket refund rules, including a 48-hour ‘look-in’ period that would allow passengers to cancel or modify tickets without any additional charges.
The proposed norms, detailed in a draft Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR), seek to make refunds faster, fairer, and more transparent for passengers.
Refunds within 21 working days
According to the draft, in cases where tickets are booked through travel agents or online portals, the responsibility for refunds will rest with the airline, since agents act as their authorised representatives. Airlines must complete the refund process within 21 working days, the DGCA sa
