BRAINERD — The city of Brainerd will work with the YMCA on the proposal of a community pool.

City Council members authorized staff during their meeting on Monday, Nov. 3, to work with the YMCA to determine the amount of financial assistance the YMCA would request from the city for the project.

City Council members first learned of the project in March, when YMCA CEO Shane Riffle shared plans for the YMCA’s capital campaign, which aims to raise $30-$35 million for a new facility to replace the current aging structure, which is in need of repairs.

At that time, the council authorized staff to work with YMCA leaders to explore the feasibility of funding a new city pool facility as part of the project. Council members agreed to allocate up to $5,000 to support a request for proposal that
