A Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office deputy shot an armed carjacking subject on Monday night in Homestead, authorities said.

Investigators said it started with an armed carjacking involving three men in the area of Southwest 279th Street and Southwest 127th Avenue at around 8:54 p.m.

Deputies were able to track the vehicle to the area of Southeast 25th Avenue and Southeast 28th Drive.

At one point, authorities said the men "abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot."

Deputies chased the subjects on foot until a deputy shot at one of the men, who was allegedly armed with an assault rifle.

The man was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

"Two other subjects were subsequently taken into custody," the sheriff's office said.
