The U.S. State Department has updated its travel advisory for Jamaica, warning Americans to reconsider travel to the Caribbean destination.

While the advisory level—a Level 3—remains unchanged, the department said that the advisory was updated to reflect "changes to U.S. embassy operations and hurricane damage."

This comes after Hurricane Melissa, the most powerful storm of the 2025 Atlantic season , left at least 40 dead with a trail of devastation and flooding across the Caribbean, after it made landfall in Jamaica on Tuesday last week as a Category 5 storm.

Millions of Americans visit the Caribbean each year—over 12 million in 2024, and more than 1.8 million of those either stayed or stopped over in Jamaica, according to the tourism website, tourismanalytics.com
