AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — An Airway Heights Police Department officer was injured in the line of duty Monday night.

According to the police department on Facebook, Corporal Mike Ziegler was injured while conducting traffic control at West 21st Avenue and South Hayford Road Monday night at around 8:30 p.m.

The police department said Ziegler was helping with a prior crash investigation when his patrol vehicle was hit by a driver who failed to yield, according to the police department.

Police said Ziegler was trapped inside his car after the crash, and emergency responders were able to get him out of the car and transport him to the hospital.

Ziegler was later released from the hospital to recover at home.
