NORTH CHARLESTON — The smell of sizzling bacon and freshly made waffles drifted out of the Waffle House on Aviation Avenue, just a 10-minute drive from Charleston International Airport.

Attorney General Alan Wilson was among the many patrons at the breakfast spot the morning of Nov. 4, when he picked up several to-go orders to bring to airport staff, including federal Transportation Security Administration workers.

“We came down to Charleston here to buy breakfast for the men and women working at the airport, the law enforcement, the TSA officials, many who are not paid a lot of money and many who are not even being paid right now because of the government shutdown, but they're out here keeping the airport and our community safe,” Wilson said outside the restaurant.
