WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Election Day is underway.
Midway ISD says they wanted to share more about the district’s $83.5M bond and encourage people to vote.
Texas law requires every school bond proposition to include the phrase “THIS IS A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE.” Midway ISD says this statement often causes needless confusion.
Texas Education Code § 45.003 mandates this wording even when a district’s tax rate will not increase.
“In Midway’s case, thanks to an increasing tax base and careful financial planning, a pass of this bond will not raise the district’s tax rate,” Midway ISD Superintendent Dr. Chris Allen said. “The phrase appearing on your ballot is a legal formality — whether the bond passes or not, the result will not change what one pays for property taxes.”
