After more than three years of fighting to save their place of worship, Holy Rosary Church will remain a beacon of faith for residents in Portugal Cove South on Newfoundland's southern shore.
The church had been put up for sale by the Roman Catholic Episcopal Corporation of St. John's to compensate victims of clergy abuse and to pay creditors.
It was purchased by a mystery investor with a connection to the town last week — who then gave ownership of the building to the Town of Portugal Cove South and its historical corporation.
"For it to continue to be a place of worship, overlooking our little town and being owned by the people here that originally put it here, that's phenomenal to me," Cynthia Power, a member of the historical corporation, told CBC News on Monday.
