TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Former Democratic Congressman Al Lawson is considering a run for the mayor of Tallahassee.

In a phone call with WCTV Tuesday afternoon, he said he will decide whether to run by the end of the year.

He said he has fielded calls all day from members of both parties.

He said he’s spent his entire life in public service, and reminisced about his time as an FSU football coach.

Commissioner Jeremy Matlow, Former State Senator Loranne Ausley and Civil Rights Lawyer Daryl Parks have all started making their pitches to voters.

The primary election in Tallahassee is scheduled for Aug. 18, 2026, and the general election is scheduled for Nov. 3, 2026.
