EUGENE, Ore. - A 67-year-old man accused of strangling another person before fleeing from a residence on Green Hill Road on Monday was arrested with the aid of a K9 officer, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
LSCO officials said that deputies responded at about 11 p.m. on Nov. 3 to a home on Green Hill Road for a reported assault. A suspect, identified as Michael Anthony Smith, allegedly injured and strangled a victim before running from the scene, sheriff’s officials said. Authorities said that deputies deployed K9 Hektor, who successfully tracked Smith to a trailer on the property.
Smith was arrested without incident and transported to the Lane County Jail. He faces charges of fourth-degree assault and strangulation. Jail records show that Smith is in custody as of Nov. 4.
