ROCKFORD, Ill. — The local government is helping people apply for an energy program.

The City of Rockford said they will be holding appointments at community sites to help people apply for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance program, or LIHEAP. LIHEAP is designed to help eligible low-income households pay for their energy service.

This week, appointments will be held at the Northwest Community Center, located at 1325 N. Johnston Ave. in Rockford, on Wednesday and Thursday. Sign-ups begin at 8:45 a.m. and appointments start at 9 a.m.

The City said they will take 50 appointments each day. Once those 50 slots are filled, sign-ups will close for the day.
