LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Putting fresh food on the table in West Louisville’s food desert can be tough.

Trying to do it without SNAP benefits is even tougher.

“Because food purchases are having to increase for our families, we’re also having to supplement household items as well as utility assistance,” Change Today, Change Tomorrow founder Taylor Ryan said. “So we are deploying funds over the next month to make sure that folks are paying their utilities on time and make sure they are staying in their houses.”

Ryan said delays and reductions to SNAP payments are forcing tough decisions, as people dig deeper to eat.
