A change of scenery didn’t turn the tides for ex-Detroit Lions quarterback Hendon Hooker as the former third-round draft pick was released by the Carolina Panthers on Tuesday.

He was waived by the Lions at roster cutdown before the start of the season and landed with the Panthers’ practice squad with an opportunity to learn under coach Dave Canales .

But as the Panthers are sitting firmly in the playoff conversation after a 5-4 start, they have shaken up their practice squad, including the release of Hooker after just over two months.

Hooker, linebacker Boogie Basham and and O-lineman Michael Tarquin were released and replaced by O-lineman Ja’Tyre Carter, running back DeeJay Dallas and safety Israel Mukuamu.
