IOWA CITY — Kinnick Stadium is about to host its biggest football game since … maybe 2015?
Arguments could be made that a handful of Hawkeyes home games had higher stakes in Kinnick over the past 9½ seasons than this Nov. 8 matchup between No. 24 Iowa (6-2, 4-1 Big Ten Conference) and No. 6 Oregon (7-1, 4-1).
Certainly, the top-five battle between Iowa and Penn State in 2021 is right up there. That 23-20 win vaulted Iowa to No. 2 in the national rankings. The vibes in Kinnick that day were off the charts. BUT … even if Iowa had lost, it still had a path to the Big Ten West title. And that Penn State team ended up 7-6, taking some historical luster off that victory.
Also, Iowa's 2023 home game against Illinois has merit. Iowa clinched a West Division title that day with a 15-13 win
