BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) - With many Americans grappling with food insecurity, county representatives have taken steps to address the issue on the local level.

Members of the Raleigh County Commission have allocated thousands in grant funding to local food banks in and around the Beckley area. Commissioners said they hope to provide some relief to local residents in light of funding cuts tied to the ongoing government shutdown. "Something we've been talking about was the shutdown and the SNAP benefits not being available and how we're trying to do our part to help local food banks who are having an influx of people during this national shutdown," said Raleigh County Commission President, Greg Duckworth.
