Voters in South Jersey spoke clearly on Election Day, with five counties breaking cleanly in favor of U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill, D-New Jersey, in the governor's race.
Sherrill's campaign pledges focused on South Jersey-specific interests, including expansion of public transportation across the seven-county region. She also has pledged more assistance to farmers, including financial support to Rutgers University’s agriculture extension and research arms.
Residents of Camden and Gloucester counties may expect Sherrill to support going ahead with the creation of an 18-mile light passenger rail service between the City of Camden and Glassboro.
That pledge aligns with efforts of Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy, despite significant community opposition to the idea.
