Vancouver’s “back-to-basics” budget for 2026 is expected to mean slashing about 400 full-time positions from the city workforce, according to an internal memo obtained by Postmedia.

The internal briefing memo was sent Tuesday to several municipal departments to help managers prepare for questions from staff after the release of the draft operating budget on Wednesday.

“It’s a ‘back to basics’ budget that involves trade-offs and organizational changes to protect core services and advance key priorities,” says the memo.
