Winds pick up across parts of New Mexico Thursday afternoon, bringing warmer temperatures and an elevated fire danger. A weak cold front drops temperatures slightly Friday.
Temperatures are a couple degrees cooler Wednesday across New Mexico, but with lighter winds. Quiet and calm weather will continue overnight. Smoke may again settle into some valleys, including the Rio Grande Valley, Thursday morning. The smoke is from prescribed burns in the Jemez and Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The jet stream strengthens across northern New Mexico Thursday afternoon, bringing 20 to 45 mph wind gusts across northern and eastern parts of the state. The westerly wind will also bring in warmer weather into the valleys and especially eastern New Mexico, where temperatures could climb 15º above average. A
