NAUGATUCK, Conn. — A scary situation unfolded in Naugatuck last weekend, as a family had a close encounter with carbon monoxide.

Seven people were hospitalized on Nov. 1 after suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning. Naugatuck Fire Chief Ken Hanks says the carbon monoxide could have been deadly if the family stayed in the house for several more hours.

Now, the Naugatuck Fire Department is asking people to remember how dangerous this time of year can be, as temperatures drop, and people look to various ways to heat their homes.

"This time of year, the carbon monoxide calls kick up quite a bit," Hanks said.
