STANLEY, N.D. (KMOT) – A 21-year-old man faces a series of charges after investigators say he repeatedly threatened to kill a Stanley Police Officer after the man asked for a ride home and then became unruly.
According to a criminal affidavit, a man, later identified as Zachariah Van, flagged down a Stanley patrol vehicle late on Oct. 25, saying he had been drinking and asking for a ride home.
The officer detained Van after smelling a strong odor of alcohol on him to investigate a possible case of minor in consumption. The affidavit states Van, who was 20 years old at the time of the incident, tried to pull away from the officer during a search.
The officer said Van repeatedly threatened to slit his throat and kill him, including at the county jail.
