LIHUE (HawaiiNewsNow) - Kauai County’s Housing Agency is holding a ceremony to proclaim the week of Nov. 16-22, as National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.
The declaration will be made on Monday, Nov, 10, at 10 a.m., in the Lihue Civic Center Moikeha Rotunda.
The goal is to educate the public, raise awareness about poverty.
“Homelessness on Kauai continues to be a complex challenge that requires the entire community’s support to address,” said Farah Aquino, the Kauai County Housing Agency’s Homeless Coordinator. “Food insecurity and hunger also affect many of our working class families.”
Another reason for creating National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is to recognize the hard work of the volunteers and service providers, who support those in need.
