WREX — With the government shutdown continuing nationally, those affects are being felt across the board.
Local food pantries are being flooded with new visitors locally, prompting food drives across the community and concerns from many.
Local experts believe the effects of people pinching pennies and spending less will have impacts for local businesses, who could see less visitors.
"Not necessarily just the immediate impact, but as people adjust their budgets today and try to pick what's the most valuable thing to spend money on, and what they're going to give up on for now, as they go back and try to catch back up, that's going to cause the current shutdown to kind of echo so to speak," Jeremy Groves, an economics professor at Northern Illinois University said.
