Buses in Wales need to go quicker which could save each household in Wales hundreds of pounds, campaigners have said. Changing road designs would move public transport out of congested routes and if buses went 10% faster, travelling at an average 13.6mph, it would save millions of pounds, according to the Confederation of Passenger Transport Cymru.

The industry body said bus lanes, traffic light priority, and town planning with buses in mind can all contribute to getting passengers to their destination faster.

On the busiest urban routes bus journey times have increased by 50% over the last 50 years, the group say, adding that reversing this trend is possible and would be transformational.
