Nine workers were detained in a federal immigration raid on a car wash in Allston on Tuesday morning. Local leaders say it’s one of the largest single roundups in the Boston neighborhood.

Witnesses said a fleet of unmarked vehicles surrounded the Allston Car Wash on Cambridge Street shortly after it opened for business at 10 a.m.

"I ended up seeing a bunch of cars — different, not all police vehicles, that were all undercover. They all look like regular cars, they all came in like 14, 15 cars deep," said Steven Garces, a car shop technician who works across the street.
