A man who was fired from his position as executive director of the Johnson County Board of Supervisors is accusing the board of racial discrimination and defamation.
Guillermo Morales filed a lawsuit against Johnson County, current supervisors Rod Sullivan and Lisa Green-Douglass, and former supervisor Royceann Porter in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Sullivan, Green-Douglass and Porter were the trio that voted in favor of removing Morales in 2024. Sullivan cited "argumentative" and "disrespectful" behavior ahead of a vote to remove Morales .
Sullivan, who served as board chair in 2024, allegedly told Morales that he also "misunderstand[s] his role and exceed[s] his authority" during the meeting when he was ousted.
