Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has publicly distanced himself from a controversial land deal in Pune linked to his son, Parth Pawar. The deal, involving a company named Amadea Enterprises, has come under scrutiny for alleged irregularities, including the sale of government land valued at Rs 1,800 crore for just Rs 300 crore. Ajit Pawar stated, "I have no connection with the issue. I will not tolerate any wrongdoing," emphasizing that he has never intervened to benefit relatives or party workers.
The Maharashtra government has initiated an inquiry into the matter, appointing Additional Chief Secretary Vikas Kharge to lead the investigation. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed that serious issues have emerged, stating, "I have sought all information regarding the issue. Orders have been given to conduct a probe."
The controversy revolves around a 40-acre plot of government-owned land in Pune's Mundhwa area, which was allegedly sold without proper authorization. Officials noted that the land cannot legally be sold to a private entity. The Inspector General of Registration, Ravindra Binwade, mentioned that the committee will investigate how the transaction was approved and whether the necessary exemptions were granted.
In response to the allegations, Ajit Pawar reiterated his commitment to transparency, saying, "If anyone is doing wrong or against the set norms, I will never support them." He also urged the Chief Minister to ensure a thorough investigation and accountability for any misconduct.
The deal has sparked political uproar, with opposition leaders demanding clarity on the transaction. Baramati MP Supriya Sule questioned the government's conflicting statements regarding the stamp duty, while former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray expressed skepticism about the outcome of the inquiry, predicting a clean chit for those involved.
In light of the allegations, the government has suspended a tehsildar and a sub-registrar linked to the case, with an FIR filed against them and others involved. The inquiry aims to uncover the details surrounding the land deal and ensure that any violations of law are addressed appropriately.
As the investigation unfolds, Ajit Pawar's insistence on his non-involvement and the government's commitment to transparency will be closely scrutinized by the public and political observers alike.
