BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is working to locate a man who they said assaulted a deputy during a traffic stop.
According to the sheriff's office, a deputy stopped a vehicle on Old Mill Road in the St. Stephen area just before 6 a.m. Thursday for allegedly failing to stay in its lane and disregarding a traffic stop.
It was determined during the traffic stop that the suspect was trying to lie to law enforcement about his identity, officials said. When deputies attempted to detain the man, he assaulted a deputy and then took off.
The sheriff's office said the deputy was injured in the assault.
