The case against a Troy man facing a felony charge after a 9-year-old child got hold of his gun and accidentally shot himself has advanced to Oakland County Circuit Court for possible trial.
Zanious Terell Murphy, 24, is charged with violation of firearm safe storage causing serious injury to a minor for the June 6 incident. At the conclusion of a Nov. 5 preliminary exam, a district judge ruled probable cause was established to bind over the case to the higher court.
The child suffered a gunshot wound to the head when he reportedly shot himself at a home on Crooks Road on May 30.
Murphy lived with the child but isn’t related to him, police said.
