IOWA CITY, Iowa — A fire broke out in a University of Iowa residence hall early on Thursday.
The Iowa City Fire Department responded to Daum Residence Hall at 225 North Clinton Street after a fire alarm sounded at 3:30 a.m. Firefighters say they found a small fire in an unoccupied dorm room, which the building's sprinkler system was already containing. They quickly extinguished the flames.
The fire caused damage limited to the room of origin, but water damage affected the first and second floors. Most students evacuated before firefighters arrived, and no injuries were reported. Displaced students were relocated by University of Iowa staff.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Iowa City Fire Marshal's Office and the University's Fire Marshal.
