An NYPD officer fatally shot a dog that bit the officer in Queens on Thursday, after police responded to a call about two dogs chasing people on the street, according to department officials.
Police said they received the 911 call to 114th Road and 155th Street in South Jamaica shortly before 8 a.m. When they arrived, officers saw two dogs running off leash and tried to bring them under control, officials said.
A third dog then approached the officers from behind and bit one of them in the leg, police said. That officer shot the third dog, which died at the scene, according to officials.
The officers were taken to a local hospital in stable condition, the NYPD said. Police said they did not know the breed of the dogs and were investigating who owned them.
