TOKYO, Japan — Toyota announced a major safety recall affecting more than 1 million vehicles across the U.S. due to a software issue that could cause backup camera images to fail or freeze.
The recall spans a wide range of 2022–2025 Toyota and Lexus models, including the Camry, RAV4, Highlander, Prius and Land Cruiser, as well as luxury models such as the Lexus RX, NX and LS. In total, about 1,025,000 vehicles in the U.S. are affected, Toyota said in a news release.
The automobile giant said the problem stems from a malfunction in the Panoramic View Monitor System’s Parking Assist ECU software. Under certain conditions, the camera image may not appear or may freeze briefly when the driver shifts into reverse. If this happens, the vehicle could fail to comply with federal safety standar
