This is the time of year when those associated with losing NFL teams are reminded of the business side of things.
That’s where the New Orleans Saints are currently, having traded away two of their offensive starters — Rashid Shaheed to the Seattle Seahawks , Trevor Penning to the Los Angeles Chargers — prior to the trade deadline after winning just one of their first nine games this season.
For some, it’s an introduction to this reality.
“I was pretty shocked,” rookie quarterback Tyler Shough said. “Obviously I’d gotten pretty close to (Shaheed) just in the little period of time we’d been working together. He’s obviously such a great dude, and Trevor as well, those are some of the first two guys I’d gotten to meet coming here.
