SALEM, Ore. (KPTV) - Governor Tina Kotek has directed $1 million in emergency assistance to Oregon’s nine federally recognized Tribes to address food security concerns due to the ongoing federal government shutdown and uncertain SNAP funding.
This allocation adds to an earlier $5 million directed to the Oregon Food Bank network.
Gov. Kotek said, “The refusal of the Trump Administration to maintain SNAP benefits during the federal shutdown is creating instability... We are moving quickly to ensure that Tribal governments and local partners have the resources they need.”
The Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) will issue streamlined grant agreements to Tribal emergency managers and social services directors by Friday, Nov. 7, allowing Tribes flexibility in how they use the funds. T
