Forty of the nation's major airports will see a 10% reduction in flights, according to the Trump administration.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the reductions are a result of the record-breaking long government shutdown and ongoing pressure on the country's air traffic controllers.
"It's going to lead to more cancellations, but we are going to work with the airlines to do this in a systematic way," Duffy said.
