BEAUMONT, Texas — A Jefferson County jury sentenced a Port Arthur man to 15 years in prison after finding him guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, for a violent stabbing that happened at the Port Arthur Inn in 2023. The sentence was read in court at 3 p.m. Thursday.

Gabriel Jones , of Port Arthur, was convicted following a three-day trial before Criminal District Court Judge John Stevens. The charge stemmed from a confrontation on March 30, 2023, that began after Jones reportedly damaged a fence around the property.

According to prosecutors, the altercation began when a maintenance worker confronted Jones about the damaged fence, and Jones attacked the maintenance worker with a chair. The wounded worker called 911 and when officers arrived, they found Jones engaged in a s
