In back-to-back speeches on the Senate floor, Arizona Democrats Ruben Gallego and Mark Kelly tried to get the Senate to pressure the House to swear in Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva with a measure blocked by Republicans.

Their Nov. 6 effort brought a momentarily uncomfortable spotlight to the Senate that has hung over the House for 44 days since Grijalva, D-Arizona, won her special election. Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyoming, the GOP’s whip, objected without comment to unanimous passage of the politically charged request.
