OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KUSI) -- In the laidback, North County beach town of Oceanside, high school football is more than just an after-school pastime.
It’s a lifestyle, a family tradition and a cornerstone of the community.
No one knows this better than Fale Poumele, an alumnus turned head coach and former San Diego State Aztec running back.
Since inheriting a 0-10 team in February 2023, Poumele has brought the Oceanside Pirates back to their prestigious standard, winning the division in each of his first three seasons.
“You've got to have men who see your vision and want to do the same thing. I think we all share the vision of making Oceanside great again,” Poumele said. “We're in a position now to make it great. Upholding that tradition is important.”
