Leslie Carey, until recently the chair of the Henderson County Democratic Party, is optimistic about local politics, even after her Oct. 23 resignation amid death threats against her family stemming from her husband’s high-profile activism .
Despite this jarring setback, she sees a bright future for the county party.
“I am a lot more aware of my surroundings. I think that’s the best that we can really do. But (the threats are) not going to slow my husband down either or deter him from standing up for what’s right. And I fully support him in that,” she told the Times-News Nov. 4.
The harassment began after Jay Carey, a disabled U.S. Army combat veteran, burned an American flag in a park near the White House in August, in protest of an executive order from President Donald Trump purpo
