Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., says he would support U.S. troops going into Nigeria amid news of Christians allegedly being persecuted.

During a Fox News interview on Wednesday, Tuberville was asked as a member of the Armed Services Committee if he would support U.S. troops going to Nigeria.

“You bet I would,” Tuberville said in response. “[There’s been] 62,000 Christians killed in Nigeria.”

He addedthere reportedly have been 100,000 Christians killed in Africa and 18,000 churches burned.

“We cannot allow this to happen to people who can’t defend themselves,” Tuberville said. “It’s just absolutely insane.”

He said if troops were to go into Nigeria, it wouldn’t be like going into Ukraine, Iran or China.
