The stranded Jamaican apple farm workers in Meaford are either home now or heading there to start rebuilding their lives following the destruction of Hurricane Melissa.
After one of the strongest hurricanes to ever hit the Atlantic tore a path through the Caribbean in late October, seventeen workers at Grandma Lambe’s in Meaford became stranded.

Their flights were cancelled in anticipation of the storm. Hurricane Melissa caused flooding, knocked out power, forced people from their homes, and killed dozens as it traced a destructive path across Jamaica, Cuba and Haiti.
In the days since, A GoFundMe campaign for the workers, started by Steph Lambe, has exceeded its $20,000 goal and has raised over $26,000 to be split evenly between the men.
