SANTA FE, N.M. —
New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has called a special legislative session on Nov. 10 to extend food benefits amid the pause on SNAP benefits amid the government shutdown.
The governor's office says the special session is expected last only one day. The special session comes on the heels of New Mexico using $30 million in emergency assistance to provide a partial benefit to SNAP participants in the state.
The governor, however, will not be in Santa Fe during the special session as she's attending a climate conference in Brazil. The governor's office says Lieutenant Governor Howie Morales will serve as acting governor during the special session.
