RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Air travelers are bracing for major flight disruptions and cancellations across the country as the Federal Aviation Administration plans to cut flight capacity by 10% at 40 major U.S. airports, beginning Friday morning.
Richmond International Airport (RIC) is not on the list of 40 airports impacted, but flights may be affected if travelers have layovers in major cities.
Air traffic controllers have been working without pay for weeks and are on track to miss another paycheck next week.
Many have been calling out sick since the government shutdown began on Oct. 1 and there are concerns over burnout.
“Our sole role is to make sure we keep this airspace as safe as possible,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
