Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is reportedly among more than three dozen major airports that will see flight reductions as the longest government shutdown in U.S. history continues.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said in a Nov. 5 press conference that 40 airports across the country will see a 10% cut in flights as pressure mounts on air traffic controllers who are going without pay and taking "side jobs" to make ends meet.

"Because of that, we have seen staffing pressures throughout our airspace," Duffy said. "Those who travel will see that we've had more delays. We've had more cancellations. We do not want to see disruptions at the FAA or here at DOT — we don't want that — but our No. 1 priority is to make sure when you travel, you travel safely."
