Former NFL star wide receiver Antonio Brown is back in the headlines and will now potentially be behind bars for a good chunk of time.

Brown, who spent 12 years in the NFL with the Steelers, Raiders, Patriots, and Buccaneers, was arrested on Thursday in Dubai and extradited to the United States, with Miami Police Department spokesperson Mike Vega confirming the news to NBC after multiple outlets reported the news. Brown was arrested in the United Arab Emirates and sent back to the US on attempted murder charges that stem from a May 2025 incident in Florida, where he fired into a crowd with a firearm following an altercation at an Adin Ross-sponsored boxing event.

A seven-time Pro Bowl and four-time first-team All-Pro selection in the league, Brown was charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder with a deadly weapon for the incident and faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. He claimed at the time he was jumped and attacked, but video evidence on social media indicates Brown ran towards the victim and fired shots after an initial altercation had been broken up. After the incident, Brown left the country in what is assumed to be an attempt to evade the reach of American law enforcement – at the time, he confirmed his departure from the US on his personal account on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Brown was escorted back to the US by federal agents and is currently in New York, where he will await transfer to Miami-Dade County in Florida, where the charges originated. No date has been set for that transfer.
