DULUTH — Local parking meters are likely to grow a bit more hungry, come January.
The Duluth Parking Commission is expected to vote Friday morning, Nov. 7, on a proposal to increase the charge for on-street parking in metered portions of the city from the current hourly rate of $1.50 to $2 at the end of the year.
While substantial, the proposed fee hike appears modest compared with the $2.50-per-hour parking meter charge the commission previously had supported. But Duluth Parking Manager Mark Bauer said that in the intervening weeks, he has heard from members of the local business community who expressed concern about a prospective 67% leap in parking meter fees.
