CLEVELAND, Ohio — A member of Cleveland’s Heartless Felons gang was sentenced on Thursday to 10 years in prison for plotting a violent robbery of a Mexican drug cartel’s stash house, only to be duped by undercover federal agents.
Derrick Williams , 41, led a crew that sold cocaine and carried out robberies of drug dealers after taking over for a notorious ring that operated the same way more than a decade ago.
Although Williams did not show up to the August 2024 robbery that was staged by the undercover agents, prosecutors said it was clear he led the group that planned to use violence, including shooting or killing if necessary.
“Big bosses aren’t the ones who carry out violence,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Kelly Galvin said. “They have others beneath them do it.”
