CLEVELAND, Ohio — A hearing on former Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder’s bid to dismiss state theft and corruption charges is set for December, after a judge canceled the trial that was set to begin this week.
Householder, 66, is already in prison on federal charges stemming from the House Bill 6 scandal.
He’s accused in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court of illegally using campaign funds to defend himself in his 2023 federal trial, where a jury convicted him in the $61 million bribery scheme to benefit FirstEnergy Corp. He was sentenced to 20 years.
Common Pleas Judge Kevin Kelley postponed the state trial Monday. Records show Householder’s attorneys, Kevin Spellacy and Thomas E. Shaughnessy, had requested the delay because of scheduling conflicts.
Shaughnessy declined to comment
