Response crews stopped a natural gas leak from a well in a marsh in Lafourche Parish on Wednesday, the U.S. Coast Guard said in a statement.

The leak was first reported on Friday morning and led to the placement of thousands of feet of containment boom to prevent the further spread of a sheen. Now that the spill has been stopped, responders will shift their focus to environmental cleanup, Coast Guard Lt. Joshua Turner said in the statement.

Government response workers remain on site to monitor air and water quality. A private company, Cudd Well Control, took the lead in stopping the leak. The Federal Aviation Administration has restricted flights over the site.
